The boundaries of Central Asia are defined by the border to Southern Russia at its most northern edge, China over to the east, Pakistan at the bottom, with the Caspian Sea forming the western border.
Major territories include the Chinese provinces of Tibet, Qinghai, Xinjiang and Inner Mongolia, along with the republics of Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan, and the nations of Mongolia and Afghanistan.
Although there are some excellent tourism spots within Central Asia, such as the enigmatic Tibet, the area is far from being a package holiday orientated, budget travel location. Far more suited to adventurous types ad backpackers looking for some excitement.
